Asian Spirit History

Asian Spirit is an airline based in Manila in the Philippines. Asian Spirits Flight Schedule operates scheduled domestic tourist services, usually flying routes not serviced by major airlines such as Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific Airlines and Air Philippines Airlines. Its main base is Philippines Domestic Airport, Manila. Asian Spirits number 1 route being to Caticlan, Boracay.

Asian Spirit Airline was established in September 1995 by the Airline Employees Cooperative (36 Filipino nationals, mostly former Philippine Airlines employees). It started operations in April 1996 and its first routes were from Manila to the present-day towns of San Jose, Malay (serving boracay island), Virac, Daet, Tablas, and the cities of Cauayan and Masbate . Towns and cities serviced by the airline are usually regarded as secondary and tertiary routes, which are usually not serviced by major airlines.

Asian Spirit's distribution drastically expanded as it opened major hubs to bridge small and sleepy yet tourist potential destinations as it fly's to other airports not supplied by other national carriers. These destinations are more popularly known in the industry as "Missionary Routes" or the "unprofitable Sectors".  Today these so called unprofitable routes have progressed and continued to register dramatic increases in commuter passengers. It can then be said that Asian Spirit remains to be as the only scheduled with operations concentrating on the missionary routes.

In January 2003 the airline finally received its congressional franchise making it the country's fourth flag carrier, enabling it to expand its services domestically and internationally in regions as well as to receive incentives from the Government in its efforts to boost air services to various destinations in the country.

Asian Spirit has the distinction of being the first airline to serve BoracayIn 1996, Asian Spirit opened the gateway to the world's famous boracay island resort when the airline started its regular air service to Caticlan Airport utilizing its 47 seater De Havilland Dash of Canada. Therefore the attempts to operate further to secondary and feeder airports gained positive acceptances by both local and foreign travellers.
